Sold out, down to the last fish

For the first time since I opened the online shop, every single piece made for the website has found a home somewhere in the world. Sold out, down to the last fish plate. Meanwhile my shop in old-town Piran is open as ever, with pieces on the shelves fresh from the kiln. Nothing is closing and nothing is ending. The only thing that changes is how the website works for a little while: instead of buying, you can now reserve from the next batch, free and with nothing to pay today. Here is what that means in practice.

What does "sold out" actually mean here?

Two different shelves, two different stories. The online collection is what sold out: every reamer, fish platter and little vase photographed for the website is now living in someone's kitchen. The physical shop of Nika Horjak Ceramics in Piran is a different shelf: it still has pieces waiting, and new ones join them whenever the kiln opens, though the selection changes week to week, so if something catches your eye there, take it while it is on the shelf. Instead of hiding the website's empty shelves, I opened reservations. You can browse everything as before, put together your list, and send it to me with one click.

Why reservations instead of just restocking?

Because it is just me, one wheel and one kiln, and every piece takes days of shaping, drying, trimming, glazing and firing. I cannot simply order more stock, because I am the stock. A reservation list is the most honest thing I can offer: rather than showing you pieces that do not exist yet as "in stock", I would rather you tell me what you love, and I tell you exactly when it can come out of the kiln, first come, first served.

Can you still visit the studio in Piran?

Please do. Nika Horjak Ceramics is at Goriška ulica 2, two minutes from Tartini Square and a few steps up from the marina. The wheel runs most days and watching a piece take shape is free and welcome, and there are still pieces to be found on the shop shelves even while the website catches its breath, though lately the early bird gets the fish plate. Autumn is a lovely, unhurried time to come: you can stand at the wheel as long as you like and watch the next batch begin.

How do you reserve from the next batch?

Three small steps. Browse the collection and add what you love to your reservation list. Press the reserve button, and an email to me opens with your list already written. I answer with the date the next kiln opens, and your pieces are set aside, first come, first served. Nothing to pay until they are real, glazed and ready to ship.
