Hand-thrown bud vase, ten centimetres tall. On one side sits a small sculpted triangular nose with two black-painted dot eyes and a tiny red mouth - a face. On the other side, a hand-painted five-petal blossom in watercolour brushstrokes. Small enough for a single olive sprig, a wildflower, or three stems of rosemary. Reads as both functional and a small companion on the windowsill.

Most ceramics on a shelf today were stamped from moulds in factories - same shape, same weight, same surface. This one was made by hand in Piran, glazed by hand with colour sourced locally, and fired in a single small kiln by the Adriatic.
